Is This The Path We Want To Be On? Interview with Margaret Atwood

erizons contributor Irene D'Souza spoke to Margaret Atwood about her childhood, her prescient gifts and her research into the trajectory that marks women's progress. Herizons: What arouses your interest in reading? Margaret Atwood: I am interested in laws as they pertain to women, and in tracing the advent of laws that disenfranchised women and took away the things they already had.

There is no doubt that Afterglow will add substantially to Sarah McLachlan's worldwide sales of 22 million recordings. Her fans are a loyal lot who have waited with baited breath for six years for her to release a new studio album. McLachlan has one of the most consistently excellent voices in pop music. When that voice is applied to great material it can actually raise goose bumps. Don't believe me?

Well known for her stint with Vancouver's New Pornographers, Neko Case has been embraced by Canadian musicians and music fans. Born in Virginia, Case's family relocated to Washington before she headed off to Vancouver for art school. While in B.C., her appetite for varied musical experiences led her through stretches with punk, roots and alternative country groups. During the course of her career, Case has played with Maow, partnered with Carolyn Mark as half of the Corn Sisters and fronted Neko Case and her Boyfriends.

Water

Annabelle Chvostek
Label:
Massive Quantities of Good Vibes
Review by:
Deanna Radford
What stands out on Water is the clarity of Chvostek's presentation. The liner notes penned by this Montreal resident contain a mini-manifesto on the importance of water, signed off with a wish for "massive quantities of good vibes"-the name of her record label. Chovstek's mini-essay delves into environmentalism, feminism and spirituality -themes covered throughout Water. And Chvostek makes it look pretty effortless, both lyrically and musically-a sure sign of a talented artist.
